It is with heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful family member and friend, Kevin Don Higgins, at the age of 56, on August 19, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on January 9, 1967, and resided in the Idaho Falls area for his entire life.
Kevin was extremely close to his mother, Donna; grandmother, Ellen; and great uncle, Ed. He spent many nights camped out in grandma's back yard with his cousins and friends – (well maybe roaming the streets). He loved fishing with family at Birch Creek and going to Heise Hot Springs as a child.
Kevin loved sports and was active his whole life. Growing up, he excelled at football at O.E. Bell Junior High and Skyline High School. He had a great love of baseball and played on many youth teams and continued through adulthood, always making new friends. His city team won many trophies and even won the 1st Mud Volleyball Tournament.
Throughout his life, he had a unique way of retaining friends from childhood to the person he most recently met. He would do just about anything for his family and friends.
Most important to Kevin was his kids. For many years, he was passionate about coaching his daughter in soccer and softball and his sons in baseball and football. He enjoyed riding his bicycle with his family, and especially loved long rides on his Honda Shadow. Kevin enjoyed music and attending live concerts. Rush was his all-time favorite band. Kevin loved animals, often bringing home strays. He always said, "I have a special bond with them," and gave them forever homes.
He graduated from EITC with a Certification in Nuclear Security, received a Plumbers License and worked in Respiratory Therapy, but he always insisted that his best job was raising his children.
Kevin is survived by Autumn and his two sons, Kellen and Kaden, both currently serving in the United States Armed Forces.
He is preceded in death by his beautiful daughter, Ashley Vivian Dawn Higgins; his loving mother, Donna Burke; grandmother, Ellen Staley; and great uncle, Ed Edwards, whom he loved dearly.
Kevin will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time when his sons are able to take Military leave to attend.
Autumn and the boys would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank You" to all of Kevin's friends and family for their kindness and generosity. It has been so appreciated more than anyone can imagine.
