Kent William Lance, beloved husband, father, grandfather, colleague, and genuine friend, has completed his life's journey. Kent experienced a cardiac arrest on December 27, 2023, and despite the valiant efforts of EMTs and the medical staff at OHSU Hospital, he succumbed to his wounds on January 16, 2024. In the intervening time, he had taken every opportunity to announce his love and gratitude to members of his family. He boasted that he had a wonderful life. He passed peacefully in his sleep, with his wife at one hand, and his son at the other. He goes now to be joyfully reunited with his father, Keith Lance, and his mother, Jeanette Lance Beer, who had preceded him in death and had been greatly missed.
Kent was born to Jeanette M. and Keith Lance on February 7, 1950. He was raised primarily in Shelley, Idaho, where he attained most of his early education. He graduated from Shelley High School in 1968 and Idaho State University where he majored in Political Science in 1972. After graduation, he joined forces with his father, Keith, in the Lance Agency providing dance bands to many nightclubs and events throughout a multi-state area. He made a career change in 1993 to become a financial advisor, retiring in 2020. Wherever he went, Kent made many friends and built deep relationships.
He married Carol Brower on July 17, 1971, in Pocatello, Idaho. They made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where they joyfully welcomed their son, Kenton (Ken) K. Lance in 1974. Kent enjoyed years as a Scouter with Troop 382 Boy Scouts when Ken was a scout, then continuing long after Ken left scouting. He enjoyed teaching Merit Badge classes in Cooking, Citizenship in the Community and Nation, and Personal Management. He was active in the Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce, Achiever's Lead Club and NAIFA, serving in their leadership offices. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir for almost 40 years.
He leaves behind his wife, Carol Lance; son, Ken Lance; daughter-in-law, Becky Lance; and seven beloved grandchildren that were the light and joy of his life. Kent was a storyteller - he also leaves behind hours of stories told, and fond memories shared, with the many people he considered friends.
