Kent Fransen

Click Here To View Memorial Video The world was introduced to Kent Richards Fransen on September 20, 1932, as the second of five children born to George and Ellis Fransen. Growing up in Rexburg, Idaho, he attended Adams Elementary School, Madison Junior High, and graduated from Madison High School with the class of 1951. He then attended Ricks College, and completed a mission for the LDS church in the Northwest Mission of the U.S. Upon returning, he was drafted into the United States Army to serve as a military police officer in Puerto Rico. No matter where Kent was in life, he had a way of making everyone feel special, whether it was the thoughtful hand-picked gifts or an enthusiastic greeting that may or may not have been used by crooners and cool cats of old. And sometimes, his commentary on everyday life was just too comical not to laugh about. Irony was never lost on Kent, and it brought much joy to those around him. He married Patricia Miller in the Logan LDS Temple. They were later divorced. They had six beautiful children, which were his greatest joy. He spent hours rebuilding bikes for the kids and taking them to the library. Embracing the beauty of the great outdoors, whether it was rifle target shooting or just driving through the mountains, was his favorite past-time. Kent was an original man, perhaps the first of the hipsters. Wrist watches and classy plaid were his staples, as was cologne and understated coolness. Getting properly attired and spending time out with his family was one of his most treasured activities, resulting in many cherished memories. He was very proud of his children and their accomplishments, and he loved them more than life itself. Some of the happiest times of his life were spent with his grandchildren. His ceaseless sweet tooth and stash of goodies was only one of the things the grandkids loved about grandpa. He had an passionate adoration of Christmas, the color orange, Coca-Cola, fancy cars, quirky antiques, and scary movies. Serendipity brought Kent and his "Sweetheart" and the love his life, Yvonne Booty, together. They were married July 23, 2003. Kent always said he was 'living with coincidence', and this was evidenced by his shared birthday with Yvonne. He was her Prince Charming and had a thoughtful romantic nature. Gusto and zeal was Kent's approach to his position as a United States Postal Employee, literally whistling while he worked. He retired at the age of 74 to travel the back roads of the Old West with his wife, and oft wintered in St. George, Utah, with many trips across the United States. Kent had a beautiful singing voice and whistled like a Nightingale. There was always an adventure or laugh to be had when he was around, making him a special and irreplaceable husband, dad, brother, and friend. And most of all, he always put others needs before his own. Others happiness was his. He fought a valiant fight against Multiple Myeloma, never complaining about the pain he experienced. He passed away April 22nd, with his loving wife, sister, daughter, son, and daughter-in-law by his side. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; children, Larry (Jill) Fransen, Doug (Angie) Fransen, Alaina (Gordon) Swanson, Pam (Travis) Wolford, Brenda (Morgan) Andrus, and Jon (Ebony) Fransen; stepchildren, Heather (Terrence) Spencer and Brian Booty; brother, Brad (Beverly) Fransen; sister, Kathy (Delbert) Sorenson; 30 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ellis Fransen; and brothers, Sharon Loy and Larry G. Fransen.
