Kent Burchyett
1/13/1977 – 5/17/2021
Finishing the race, triumphant in life, death and resurrection through Jesus - our beloved husband, son, brother and friend now sees the glory of His Lord face to face. The life he lived in service to Christ and to others leaves a legacy of faith and obedience for those who grieve his passing.
Kent was born on January 13, 1977 at Fort Riley, KS. He was the middle and, in his modest opinion, the best and favorite son of his parents Brad and Audrey. From his early years, Kent showed an appreciation for music. He and his blankie bounced to music on the family’s couch. Kent sang his first solo at 10 and continued to share his voice with others the rest of his life. Playing soccer filled his time from grade school through college. Kent was a graduate of Leavenworth High School, Southwest Baptist University and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as a missionary for 3 years to the people of Wales, who he regarded highly and with great fondness. He came home with the ability to speak Welsh fluently and the desire to return to those he dearly loved. Kent pastored churches in Kansas, Missouri and Idaho. He moved to Idaho 10 years ago to begin his devoted service with Calvary Baptist Church in Idaho Falls.
He served Calvary Baptist through leading them in worship and caring for the youth. Often Kent could be seen acting out the weekly skits for Vacation Bible School as well. His performances were improvisational and hilarious. Recently Kent served in his church’s home school co-op. He led worship for their chapel services, taught a class and enjoyed lunch with the students. His youth will forever remember their Circle of Trust experience during their first summer camp. He affectionately gave each of his youth nicknames related to funny stories or memories he had of them. He took frequent mission trips to various locations throughout his life He enjoyed his time in Prague especially and loved his return trips. Once while singing karaoke in China, he was able to help the International Mission Board locate an unreached, nomadic people group. He shared his love for leading worship through song with South Fork Outdoorsmen Church and Old Faithful Christian Ranch summer camps, both in Eastern Idaho.
Almost two years ago, his life intersected with his beautiful wife, Porsha, during a youth outing and they bonded over their equal love for Nacho Libre and ministering to teenagers. What began as finishing each other’s movie quotes in the church van moved to their portrayal of Mary and Joseph in the church’s Christmas live nativity and blossomed into a beautiful courtship and love story. Anyone around the pair could see their love for one another shining brightly. They were, without reservation, deeply and madly in love. Kent learned how to eat green foods, talk about emotions and love little dogs. With Porsha’s partnership, Kent became an even more fervent follower of Christ. Through Kent, Porsha learned to rest in the tangible version of the love of Jesus. The two followed the leadership of Christ and married in October of 2020.Theirs is a love story lighting the road to redemption and God’s perfect plan.
Kent is survived by his precious wife Porsha Burchyett of Birds Landing, CA; mother-in-law Kathy Grant of Fresno, CA and nephews Johnny, Sam and Matt Holland of Macon, GA; his parents Brad and Audrey of Tonganoxie, KS; brother Tyler and wife Allison of Southaven, MS; brother Aaron and wife Michelle of Lansing, KS; nephews Barrett and Mastin and nieces Baylee and Carli; Dogs Moose and Bruiser.
