KENNETH THORNLEY IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Kenneth Arnold Thornley, 89, former Basalt resident, died September 28, 2006, under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho at Aspen Grove Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was born November 8, 1916, in Smithfield, Utah, to Arnold and Lillie Olsen Thornley; his mother passed away when he was 8 years old. He attended schools in Cache Valley area, leaving home at an early age. He worked several jobs, then came to Idaho Falls area where he secured work on the East River Road working on various farms. He returned to Richmond, Utah, to marry Stella Spackman Bright September 7, 1937, bringing her to Idaho to start their family. They moved to the Woodville area in 1958 where he farmed until Interstate 15 was constructed, then he worked for a fence contractor installing chain link fence along the interstates in Idaho and Nevada until he retired. In 1974, he purchased a home in Basalt, Idaho, where they lived until his wife preceded him in death December, 2000. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed hunting fishing, and, after retirement, gardening and raising rabbits until his loss of sight prevented his caring for them. Survivors include: Daughter: Maxine Bright Mower, Idaho Falls, ID Son: Bob Kay (Julie) Thornley, Shelley, ID Daughter: Stella Marie (James) Rardin, Basalt, ID Daughter: Mary Ann (Ray) Petersen, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Elaina (Raymond) Williams, Firth, ID 16 Grandchildren & 31Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, Rex Kenneth, and two brothers, Melvin and Ralph. Graveside Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at Fielding Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 North Ridge) and Tuesday from 10 to 11:00 a.m. at Wood Funeral Home before proceeding to the cemetery. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
