Kenneth Marler - 03/31/2003 Kenneth Marler - 03/31/2003 KENNETH H. MARLER IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Kenneth H. Marler, 75, died March 31, 2003, at Idaho Falls, following a long battle with cancer. He was born October 29, 1927, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Loran J. Marler and Zella Ryset Marler. He served in the U.S. Army following World War II. He married Nadine Smith on October 7, 1946 in Dillon, Montana. They lived in Lima, Montana, for a number of years, where they raised their family. A strong believer in public service, he served as the Mayor of Lima, President of the PTA, and Commander of the VFW Post. The family has resided in Idaho Falls since 1979. He worked his entire career for Union Pacific railroad, during which he witnessed the transition from steam power to today’s automation. Ken was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially in Montana’s Red Rock Valley. A published author, he was active in the Idaho Writers League, and served as president of the league. He had a lifelong interest in model airplanes, and was a founding member of the Desert Eagles Model Airplane Flying Club. The club recently honored him by naming their flying field the “Ken Marler Field”. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his wife, Nadine, two sons, Loran (Carmen) of Idaho Falls, Eric of Missoula, Montana, and a daughter, Karen (Joe) Shragge, of Salt Lake City, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three sisters, Helen (John) Simper of Salt Lake City, Shirlene (Reed) Lords of Idaho Falls, Janet (Jesus) Garcia of Salt Lake City, and one Brother, Bob (Catherine) of Ririe. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, George, Loran, Frank and Fay and one great grandson. Funeral services will be at 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge Ave.). Friends may visit with the family Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until time of services. Interment will be in the Taylor Cemetery following the services. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team. The family extends their thanks and sincere appreciation for the loving care provided by Aspen Home Health Care and Hospice. The family suggests donations be made to the Aspen Hospice organization.
