Kendra Scoresby, 58, of Iona, Idaho, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Kendra was born July 9, 1955, in Provo, Utah, to Charles Burdell Merrell and Nyal Merrell. She grew up and attended schools in Utah and Virginia and graduated from Falls Church High School. She earned an Associates Degree from Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and graduated from Hollywood Beauty College in Provo, Utah, in 1981.
On June 20, 1981, she married Ralph W. Scoresby in the Provo, Utah LDS Temple. Throughout the years, Kendra lived in Utah, Virginia, South and Central America, and Idaho. She also served a full-time LDS mission in Spain from 1978-1979. Kendra served as PTA president and treasurer at Silver Hills Elementary School in Kearns, Utah, where she also taught English to immigrant children. She had worked as a home health aide, and was a secretary in a medical office at the time of her death.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings, including in the Primary, Relief Society, Young Women’s organization, and as a librarian. She enjoyed reading, family events, and skyping with her family.
Kendra is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Ralph Scoresby;
daughter, Janalee (Dan) Bowen and grandson Kade Bowen;
son, Jared Scoresby;
daughter, Shayann (Dalan) Guthrie;
mother, Nyal Merrell;
brother, Durk (Joan) Merrell;
sister, Jackie (Chad) Neibaur;
brother, Blair (Liz) Merrell;
brother, Stuart Merrell;
brother, Quinn (Lachell) Merrell;
brother, Barry (Annette) Merrell;
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Burdell Merrell, and her brother, Kevin Merrell.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at the Iona LDS 1st Ward, 5169 East Denning Avenue, with Bishop Randy Smith officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery.
