Ken Phillips

Ken Crawforth Phillips, 80, of Idaho Falls, passed away August 4, 2017, at Life Care Center of Idaho Falls. Ken was born September 25, 1936, in Rupert, Idaho, to Russell Roy Phillips and Hazel LaVon Crawforth Phillips. He grew up and attended schools in the area and graduated from Rupert High School. He also attended Brigham Young University, University of Idaho, and Idaho State University receiving a Master’s Degree in Engineering. On December 28, 1959, he married Glenda Baker Phillips in Logan, Utah. To this union were born five children: Kerk, Kendall, Glenette, Vonnie, and Camille. Ken and Glenda lived in Provo, Utah, San Gabriel, California, and Phoenix, Arizona, before moving to Idaho Falls, Idaho. Ken worked as a Safety Engineer for the Idaho National Engineering Laboratories (INEL). Ken was a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE). An active a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ken served faithfully in many callings, including Bishopric Counselor, Ward Clerk, Executive Secretary, and as a missionary with his wife at the Idaho Falls Temple Visitors Center. As a youth he served a full-time mission to the Western States Mission. Among Ken’s many interests were lapidary, gardening, fishing. camping, boating, photography, and traveling. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Glenda Phillips of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Kerk Layne (Cho Yeongmi) Phillips of Orem, UT; son, Kendall Baker (Karyn) Phillips of Spring, TX; daughter, Glenette (Mark) Hillyard of Ammon, ID; daughter, Vonnie (Shawn) Parkin of Panguitch, UT; daughter, Camille (Brad) Jones of Orem, UT; sister-in-law, Joyce Baker Evans of Salt Lake City, UT. 21 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Russell C. Phillips. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017, at the Idaho Falls LDS 31st Ward, 1165 Azalea Drive, with Bishop Patrick Neeley officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue, and from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
