MAY IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Kay Willis May, 79, of Idaho Falls, died November 25, 2001, at Idaho Falls Care Center of complications from cancer of the appendix. He was born October 24, 1922, on the family farm near Twin Groves, Idaho, the 5th of nine children born to Theodore J. May and Christina M. Olsen May. For short periods of time they lived in Heman and Chester, Idaho and Logan, Utah, where he started school, before returning to Twin Groves. He attended schools in Twin Groves and graduated from South Fremont High School in St. Anthony. Upon graduating from high school he went to Burbank, California, to work for Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, where he was subsequently drafted into the Army Air Corps. He received training at eight different bases before sailing from Newport News, Virginia to Northern India. In India he helped repair the airplanes at the base of the Burma Road. After World War II he returned to the states by way of Calcutta to Fort Lewis, Seattle, having traveled around the world. He met Jean Davenport in Parker, Idaho, and they were married June 26, 1947, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He then worked as an auto-body and fender repairman for his father-in-law, Harold Davenport, and then for “Terry & Davenport.” He later worked at the Department of Energy at Arco, where he worked for Phillips, Argonne, Allied Chemical, Exxon, Westinghouse, and Winco before retiring after 35 years as an Engineer. He retired September 1, 1987. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in the Bishopric, as Stake Clerk, and High Councilman. He served a full-time mission with his wife to Salt Lake City at the Family History Library, and in the Idaho Falls Temple Visitors’ Center. They have also served as Family History Consultants in the ward and stake. They were dance directors in Parker for nine years and he was a square dance caller. He was known for his humor and philosophy. He enjoyed snow-mobiling, his garden, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, computer, scanner, printers, and digital camera. He also enjoyed taking trips with his wife to Tennessee, Washington, a Church History tour to the eastern United States, and traveling to Denmark and France, where they were hosted by Robert and Genevieve May and met many cousins. Janine Barnes, two sisters, Rhea Tyler and Mary Torp, and five brothers, Murlan, Ralph E., Alvin R., Clyde, and Clifford May. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 29, 2001, at the Idaho Falls LDS Sage View Ward, 2345 West 17th South, with Bishop Larry Friedman officiating. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to the services on Thursday at the church.
