He was surrounded by his loving family. Kay was born June 5, 1935, the fourth of seven children of Reed and Valeria Pearson Blatter. The family consists of: Marilyn Crawford of Carson City, NV; Glenn & Sharlene of Ammon, ID; Lynn & Lila of Washington, UT; Cheryl Graham of Rexburg, ID; Vicki & Merrill Harward of Salt Lake City, UT; and John & Diane of Danville, CA. Kay was raised in Ammon, Idaho, where he graduated from Bonneville High School in 1953. While attending BYU-Provo, he married his high school sweetheart, Una Burke, from Iona, Idaho. They are the parents of six children: Gary Blatter of Orem, UT; Allen & Jeanine Blatter, Kevin & Lynette Blatter, Kari & Julio Rojas, Brian & Kimber Blatter, Lynette and Darren Woods, all of Concord, CA; and a foster daughter, Sherry Altaha of Lake Side, AZ. Kay and Una lived in St. Louis, Missouri, while he attended dental school. After graduation, he served two years in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Las Vegas as a Lieutenant in the Dental Corps. He then moved to Concord, California, where he practiced dentistry for 40 years. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kay had the privilege of serving in a stake presidency, as a bishop for seven years, as stake missionary, and as stake mission president. Kay and Una also served a CES Mission in Hartford, Connecticut. Una passed away suddenly in 2005. Kay then sought out another school classmate, Marva Burtenshaw Bodily, who was widowed. They’ve been married for ten years. Together they served a 20-month mission in Concord, California, as managers of the Bishop’s Storehouse there. After their mission they resided in Rexburg, Idaho, and served in the temple. Kay was much loved and appreciated by the Bodily children: Vonda & Gary Brown of Orem, UT; Nita & Ron Klingler of Rexburg, ID; Dan Bodily of El Dorado Hills, CA; Sandra & Monte Young of Ammon, ID; and Douglas & Teresa Bodily of West Jordan, UT. The combined families consist of 54 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and many wonderful in-law spouses. Kay’s hobbies included bicycle riding, boating, camping, journal writing, traveling the world, and exploring the back roads of Idaho in his side-by-side ATV. As a family we are grateful for his love, example, humor, and wisdom, which will continue to influence us for generations. We rejoice that families are forever!
