Katsumi “Kats” Miyasaki, 86, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 18, 2015, at his home. He was under the care of Alliance Home Health and Hospice and his loving family.
Katsumi was born February 13, 1929, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Kitaro Miyasaki and Mitsu Watanabe Miyasaki. He grew up in Rexburg and the surrounding areas and attended Hibbard Grade School, Japanese School, Madison High School, and Sugar-Salem High School. He also attended the University of Idaho and earned his Associates Degree.
He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1951, and served as a Corporal during the Korean War. After returning home from the war, he farmed with his family in St. Anthony until moving to Idaho Falls in 1966.
On May 11, 1968, he married Jeanette Egbert Hatch in Tetonia, Idaho. They adopted two children, Hollie and Jennifer, and made their home in Idaho Falls, where Kats worked as a Quality Assurance Engineer at Argonne-West (now the INL).
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Katsumi was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports and gardening. In his later years, his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandkids.
Katsumi is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Jeanette Miyasaki of Idaho Falls, ID;
daughter, Hollie (Marc Arms) Miyasaki of Iona, ID;
daughter, Jennifer (Dan) Garren of Iona, ID;
sister, Yaeko (Haruo) Yamasaki of UT;
3 grandchildren, Finn Garren, Afton Garren and Rylan Arms.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, three sisters and an infant sibling.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Alliance Home Health and Hospice, 1270 South Woodruff, Idaho Falls, ID 83404. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Trisha Martin and staff.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015, at the Rexburg Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue. There will be a Luncheon in Idaho Falls Thursday following the services at the cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
