Kathy Krekel

Kathy Rae Krekel, 64, of Shelley, passed away May 15, 2015, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Kathy was born August 18, 1950, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Melvin Westergard and Victoria Palagi Westergard. She grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. On December 12, 1970, she married David Wayne Krekel at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Idaho Falls. To this union were born two daughters, Catherine and Alexis. Kathy and David lived in Shelley and Ammon, Idaho. Kathy worked as a secretary for School District #91 and retired in 2012. She was a member of the Shelley Community United Methodist Church. Kathy enjoyed church activities, volunteering at the Shelley Food Bank and spending time with her grandchildren. Kathy is survived by her loving husband, David Krekel of Shelley, ID; daughter, Catherine (Larry) Wernow, of La Mesa, CA; daughter, Alexis Krekel, of Sacramento, CA; sister, Ivy Ross, of Portland, OR; and 2 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, LeRoy Westergard. Graveside Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to your local food bank.
