Kathryn 'Katy' Summers Cleverley, 88, of Rexburg, passed away June 3, 2011, at her home in Rexburg of natural causes. She was under the care of her loving family and Alliance Hospice.
Katy was born September 13, 1922, in Ogden, Utah, the fourth of seven children born to Lawford James Summers and Rachel Weaver Summers. When she was eight years old the family moved to the Clark area near Rigby, where she grew up. She graduated from Rigby High School in 1940. She has also lived in Idaho Falls, Ririe, and Rexburg.
On February 25, 1950, she married Alma Cleverley in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 7, 1957. Katy was a homemaker and mother and also worked in the laundry at the old LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls, at Sprouse Reitz in Idaho Falls, Brown’s IGA in Ririe, and at Muir Roberts for nearly 30 years, from which she retired at age 77. Alma passed away February 14, 1994.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Katy served as a Visiting Teacher and in the Relief Society and Young Women’s presidencies, as well as ward librarian and other callings. Her hobbies included sewing, needlepoint, genealogy, painting ceramics, family, and feeding people.
Katy enjoyed playing pranks with her best friend, Leah Radford. Her greatest achievement was her family.
Katy is survived by her son, Rodney (Sheri) Cleverley of Rexburg, ID; two stepsons, Ian James (Jean) Cleverley and Keith S. Cleverley, both of Preston, England; a daughter-in-law, Joyce David; a sister-in-law, Jolene (Boyd) Summers of Rexburg, ID; 8 grandchildren, Tonya (Richard) Radley of Pleasant Grove, UT, Jody Gualano of Carmel, NY, Stephen (Ginger) Cleverley of Rexburg, ID, Sarah (Logan) Cutts and Ian (Whitney) Cleverley, both of Idaho Falls, ID, Wendy (Colin) Crossett, Nettie (Lawrence) Cleverley-Bettinson and James Cleverley, all of England, and 13 great grandchildren, with one more on the way. She also had many beloved nieces and nephews and her special companions, Jake and Max. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Gary Cleverley and Stephen John Cleverley, a daughter, Sandra Kaye Clapp, a son-in-law, Lee Clapp, five brothers, Arnel, John, Emmett, Elmer, and Boyd, and a sister, Denice Meng.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at the Rexburg LDS Mill Hollow Third Ward, 315 Gary Drive, Rexburg, with Bishop Gary Evans officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge, Idaho Falls, and Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be next to Alma in Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls.
