Kathleen Burggraf, a beloved educator, entrepreneur, and cherished family member, passed away peacefully at her home on August 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 30, 1958, in Springville, Utah, Kathleen was the daughter of Jesse Ray Barker and Shirley Ann Harman Barker, who preceded her in death, along with her brother, Craig Barker and her late husband, Robert V Burggraf Jr.
Kathleen was a remarkable woman, whose life was filled with love, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to those she held dear. She graduated from Springville High School and Utah State University, where she earned degrees in history and geography. Her passion for history led her to a distinguished teaching career at Clair E Gayle Jr. High School, where she touched countless lives and was honored with the Teacher of the Year award.
Beyond her career in education, Kathleen was an entrepreneur. She founded the Brownstone Restaurant and Brewhouse in Idaho Falls, reinvigorating the local brewing scene that had been dormant from 1939 to the late 1990's. Her contributions to her community were numerous, as she dedicated much of her time and resources to the Museum of Idaho and other nonprofit organizations later in life.
Kathleen was a woman of many talents and interests. Known for her free spirit and speaking her mind, she was an accomplished artist, she enjoyed hiking and gardening, and she was an avid world traveler. Her heart was always open to new experiences, and she cherished every moment spent with her family. Her kindness, generosity, and honesty left an incredible mark on all who knew her.
She is survived by her sons, Robert V Burggraf III and Jeffrey Burggraf; her siblings, Gayle, Steve and Karen; her grandchildren, Tommy, Sterling, Robert IV, and Blair; her daughters-in-law, Marley and Christine Burggraf; and her loving partner, Layne Dyett. Kathleen's legacy of love, support, and friendship will continue to inspire her family.
A celebration of Kathleen's life will be held from 1-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at her home, 172 Stone Hedge Ct. in Idaho Falls.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting Kathleen's own spirit of giving.
Kathleen's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
