Kathaleen (Kathy) Marie Plock, passed away at home Saturday, February 14, 2015, after a long battle with cancer.
She was born June 6th, to Robert L. and Lois Welch Harp in Evanston, Wyoming. Her parents met while attending college at the University of Wyoming. Robert was a football player and studying to be a teacher while Lois was a beauty queen and accounting major. They married and had their first child, a perfect daughter they named Kathaleen, on a summer day in 1953.
Kathy was the first child, first grandchild, only daughter, and she was beautiful. She was showered with attention and adored by everyone she met. She was given the nickname Tweety, from the cartoon character Tweety Bird because of her big, bright, blue eyes and long, dark eyelashes. As a toddler she entered and won a cutest baby contest. Her prize was a professional photo session and color pictures, which were a big deal in the mid 1950's.
As a child she moved from Wyoming to Washington and then to California where her Father worked as a Teacher, Football Coach and taught Drivers ED for a local high school. Her Mother worked as an Accountant. She grew up in California attending Grammar School and then College at Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC). Following in her Mother's footsteps, she majored in Accounting.
She met her husband of 41 years, Stephen (Steve) Plock, at Mt. San Antonio College. He was a good looking guy, who had just returned from serving in the Army and was studying business. They fell in love and married September of 1973 in Winterhaven, Arizona.
After getting married they moved into their first apartment together. Steve, following in his Father's footsteps, got a job with the Postal Service and Kathy worked as a Bookkeeper. Both car enthusiasts, they bought a Porsche and joined a local Porsche Club. She loved driving her little white sports car.
A few years later they moved from their little apartment in Hacienda Heights (California) to West Covina (California), and bought their first home. She also helped operate a restaurant owned by Steve and his parents. In the fall of 1978, their first child, a daughter, was born. While Kathy was in labor and Steve was driving to the hospital, she almost gave birth on the front seat of her car on the I-10 freeway. Three and a half years later in June of 1982, she gave birth to a handsome son with bright eyes and long eyelashes, just like his mom.
In the fall of 1983, Steve transferred to the Idaho Falls Post Office and the family moved from California to Idaho Falls where Kathy lived until her death.
Kathy worked as a Payroll Clerk for Ormond Construction, Intermountain Construction, and SEZ Construction. At the time of her death she was employed at School District 93 as an Accounts Payable Clerk. She was excellent at working with numbers, balancing accounts, and problem solving; which made her exceptional at her job. She also made many close, lifelong friends at each of the places she was employed.
Kathy enjoyed living in Idaho and spending time outdoors. She was happiest camping, fishing, riding her 4-wheeIer, and spending time with her dog, Maddy. One of her hobbies and talents was photography. While out camping she would explore and take stunning pictures of wildlife and nature.
Another one of her favorite pastimes was spending time with her grandchildren and they loved spending time with her. She had a special and unique relationship with each one of them. She was able to make each grandchild feel like they were her favorite. She knew everything that was going on in each of their lives and always made sure to attended sporting events, school programs, performances, and made each holiday and birthday special.
Kathy is survived by her husband Steve; daughter, Mindy (Blake); son, Mark (Faye Ann); father, Robert Harp; brother, Robert Harp; brother, Charles Harp; step-brother Howard (Ronda) Smith; aunt, Noreen Gries; 7 Grandchildren, Ethan, Justice, Preston, Kaydee, Alexander, Kadence, and Stephen; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and her loving dog, Maddy.
