Karl Frederick Robinson

Karl F. Robinson, 84, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 18, 2022, at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Karl was born September 30, 1937, in Central, Idaho, in his grandparents’ house, to Frederick Roland Robinson and Afton Ring Christensen Robinson. He grew up and attended schools in Grace, Idaho, and graduated from Grace High School. He also attended BYU, graduating with a degree in Math Education with a minor in Physics, and the University of Oregon, where he received his Master’s Degree.

On September 6, 1962, he married Renée Wendel in the Manti Temple. Karl and Renée lived in Provo, Ephraim, Manti, Roy, Utah, and Eugene, Oregon, before making their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where they have lived for almost 54 years. Karl worked as a high school math teacher at Skyline High School.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served many missions: Southwest Indian Mission in New Mexico, a stake mission, at the Bishop’s Store House, as a veil worker at the temple, and for 12 years at the Idaho Falls Regional Family History Center, where he indexed thousands of names. He served in many callings, from Elders Quorum President to Nursery Leader.  He had a beautiful tenor voice and loved singing and whistling. He sang with the Ogden Choral, The Latter-day Sounds, The Barbershop Chorus, and some barbershop quartets, where he sang lead.

He always wanted to be busy. He was an avid weed and dandelion digger. He believed that if he didn’t get the root of the weed out that he hadn’t done his job right.

He loved to go tent camping with his wife and children. He believed that it helped build unity in his family. Everyone had to help set up the tent, clean the camp, help with the meals, etc. He had a great work ethic and taught it to his children. He supported his sweetheart in all she did, especially when she went back to Ricks College for her nursing degree after having four of their five children, and also as a missionary at the Idaho Falls Regional Family History Center. After retiring from School District 91, he volunteered to help the first graders improve their reading skills at Tiebreaker Elementary School. He did that for three years.

He had a vibrant testimony of the Church and of his Savior, Jesus Christ, which he bore each time he wrote in a birthday card for his children and grandchildren. He was always willing to serve others until his health started to decline. He told his sweetheart, “I love you” every day and thanked her and complimented her on each meal. He will be truly missed.

Karl is survived by his sweetheart, Renée W. Robinson of Idaho Falls, ID; children, Bryan Karl and Sandy Robinson of Papillion, NE; Michael Clarence and Tanya Robinson of Lehi, UT; Karen and Kent Gray of Blackfoot, ID; Kim Roland and Kimberly Robinson of Orem, UT; Richard Wendel and Téa Robinson of Buckeye, AZ; brothers, Stan (Kathy) Robinson of Roy, UT; Paul (Jerilyn) Robinson of St. George, UT; Kent Robinson of Salt Lake City, UT; Fred (Debbie) Robinson of Medford, OR; sister, Jewel McLean of Ozona, TX; sister-in-law, Dot Robinson of Oklahoma;  21 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Afton Robinson; and his brother, Gene Robinson.
