Julie (Day) Staples

Julia Anne “Julie” Staples, 82, of Ammon, passed away February 8, 2022, at her home. She was under the care of her loving family and One Source Home Health & Hospice.

Julie was born August 17, 1939, in Burley, Idaho, to Franklin Carl Day and Virginia Fowles Day. The depression had ended a few years before she was born, but World War II was going on and jobs were hard to find. When she was two years old, the family (which consisted of her older brother, Lee) moved to St. Anthony, Idaho, where her father found work in the laundry business. They then moved to Idaho Falls where her father worked for City Cleaners, and then owned and operated the Model Cleaners on First Street. She attended Emerson Elementary School, OE Bell Jr. High, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1957. By this time, the family included four more siblings: Marilyn, Dennis, Kevin, and Kelly.

Julie lived in Idaho Falls where her daughter, Becky, and son, Craig, were born. She then moved to Boise where her daughter, Vicki Jo, was born, and David, Tina, and Jeff joined the family. They lived in the Boise/Meridian area for 18 years. In 1978, they moved to Blackfoot, Idaho, for five years. Julie was the attendant secretary for the Blackfoot Jr. High for three years. She then lived in Rexburg and Pocatello before coming back to Idaho Falls where she worked for the City in the Road & Bridge Department. While working there, she met and married Darrell Staples in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1985 and they lived there for 24 years. Julie taught private piano lessons for several years, and also worked as Office Manager for Keith Jorgensen’s Music Store.

Julie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions in the wards and stakes. She and Darrell served a mission in the Philippines in 2003 and 2004. They also served in the Family History Library in Idaho Falls in 2005 and 2006. They served a mission in the Salt Lake Family History Center in 2007-2009. They lived in St. George, Utah, from 2009-2010 and then moved to Ammon. They served for a year at the LDS Employment Center in 2011. They served in the Idaho Falls Temple Baptistry for three years. The greatest gift Julie possessed was her membership in the church and her testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

She loved every member of her family dearly and her greatest joy was being a grandmother. She and Darrell had many memorable trips and outings with grandchildren. They enjoyed Jeff’s high school wrestling career and never missed a match or tournament. They loved to attend any events that the grandchildren were involved in. Their one regret was that they didn’t live close to any of the great grandchildren so they could be involved in their lives and watch them grow up.

She is survived by her daughter, Becky (Bruce) Lundquist of Logan, UT; sons, Jeff (Andrea) Gardner of Blackfoot, ID, Scott Gardner of Meridian, ID; siblings, Carl Day of Ucon, ID, Marilyn (Steve) Archibald of Ammon, Dennis (Shellee) Day of Arizona, Kevin (Brandi) Day of Ammon, and Kelly (Jeannie) Day of American Fork, UT; 14 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darrell Staples; son, Craig Gardner; daughter, Vicki Jo Gardner; son, David Gardner; daughter, Tina Gardner; and sister-in-law, Peggy Day.

Graveside services will be held at 12 Noon Friday, February 11, 2022, at the Ucon Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to services at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road.
