Julia Marian Croft Hurst, 81, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away May 4, 2018. Julia was born January 7, 1937, to Jess and Venna Croft in Idaho Falls. She grew up in Idaho Falls with her three older sisters and one brother. As a child, she loved playing with the family’s dogs, nieces and nephews, and spending time on the family’s ranch east of town. Julia graduated from Brigham Young University and then went to Anchorage, Alaska, to teach elementary school. She later served a mission for the LDS church in the Northwestern States mission. After her mission, she first worked as the receptionist to the twelve apostles at LDS church headquarters before returning to teaching. While teaching in Logan, she met the love of her life, Clyde Hurst. They were married in the Logan Temple in 1965, and they lived in St. Paul, Minnesota, where Clyde was finishing his PhD. Their two sons, Jestin and John, were born there. The family lived in Washington, D.C.; Picayune, Mississippi; and Logan and Richfield, Utah. Julia and Clyde moved to Idaho Falls in 2008. They were married for 49 years when Clyde passed away in 2014. Julia loved music and was always singing. She spoke especially fondly of being part of an octet during eighth grade and sang in many choirs throughout her life. Julia was an active member of the LDS church and regularly volunteered in the communities where she lived. Friends and acquaintances spoke often of her kind and loving nature. Julia also loved to travel and visited all 50 states and many foreign countries. Alaska always held a special place in her heart, and she and Clyde drove there several times. Julia was happiest whenever she was with her beloved, Clyde. We are happy they are together again. Julia is survived by her sons: Jestin (Marci) Hurst, Idaho Falls, and John (Nick) Hurst, Salt Lake City; her grandchildren: Tyler, Rexburg; Derek, Spain Barcelona Mission; and Megan, Idaho Falls; her granddogs: Cooper, Aggie, and Rufus; and her sister, Margaret Croft Wilcox, Houston. She was preceded in death by her parents: Jess and Venna Croft; husband, Clyde Hurst; and siblings: Virginia Snarr, David Croft and Venna Reed. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, Ammon, Idaho. The family will receive friends and neighbors at Wood Funeral Home on Friday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and Saturday at 1:00 p.m. prior to services. Interment will be at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. The family would like to express its great appreciation to the staff at Tambree Meadows Memory Care Unit and Aspen Hospice for the tremendous love, respect, and kindness they showed Julia in the months leading up to her passing.
