JOYCE VEST
IDAHO FALLS, ID - Joyce Hansen Vest, our dear Mother, Grandmother,
Great-Grandmother and friend, died peacefully at home of natural causes, Thursday,
March 24, 2005, after a long and valiant struggle with poor health. She was
73 years old.
She was born November 15, 1931, in Idaho Falls, to Freeman
and Mabel Hansen. She spent her youth in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho
Falls High School.
She married Farrel Ardell Vest in the Salt Lake City LDS
Temple on September 7, 1949. They spent their early married years in Idaho
Falls where he operated a service station and later worked at the newly opened
Atomic Energy Site. Together they always wanted children, and ended up adopting
five . . . . they were the joy of her life. Her husband's work took them to
Boise, Buena Park, California, and Las Vegas before eventually settling back
in Idaho Falls for the last 40 years.
One of her great loves was making her home a clean and inviting
place to live in. She loved good music and instilled in her children an appreciation
for it. She was born with a love and talent for art. She especially loved
developing and drawing visual aids used in teaching children. She taught many
classes on the subject and lectured several years at BYU Education Week. She
was devoted to genealogy and Family History. She and her Mother spent several
years preparing and publishing a Jensen Family History, which has been a great
legacy for her family. She was proud of her Danish and pioneer heritage and
worked hard to preserve it.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. She held several callings, but the ones she enjoyed the most were
teaching children and preparing the weekly 28th Ward Beacon. She and her husband
also did Genealogical Extraction work. In 1991-1992, she served a full time
mission with her husband in Ventura, California for her church. This was one
of the crowning times in her life.
Because of her health conditions, they never could get too
far from home, but she loved to take short trips around Southeastern Idaho.
She loved going to Market Lake and watching the birds, or up into the foothills
to see the fall colors.
For the last few years of her life, she was confined to her
home and then to her bed. She drew the most joy from seeing her many family
members and visitors. Her husband was devoted to her constant care until he
died suddenly on May 17, 2004. For the last year, she appreciated the care
she received from her family which allowed her to remain in her home. Her
stable influence, firm testimony and loving ways will be greatly missed by
all who knew her.
