Click Here To View Memorial Video Joyce Sophie Neibaur Schofield, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away at her home, surrounded by her family (her final wish), on Sunday, February 8, 2015, from the effects of esophageal cancer. Joyce was born October 6, 1931, in Newdale, Idaho, to Daryl William Neibaur and Sophie Pfeifer Neibaur, and was the youngest of nine children. She grew up and attended schools in the Newdale-Sugar City areas. She had lived in Idaho Falls since the 1970s. She married Tad R. Schofield on April 2, 1949, in Coltman (near Idaho Falls), and they were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They had six children. They farmed in Moody Creek (near Rexburg), and later in the Burley-Rupert areas. They eventually settled in Idaho Falls. Joyce worked hard at many vocations during her life, including: farming and potato packing sheds; as a nurse’s aide at the Rupert Hospital; as auditor-office manager-trouble shooter for the Ponderosa Inns motel chain in Burley, Lewiston, Pocatello, and Idaho Falls; and as a bookkeeper for the ARA (Alcoholic Rehabilitation Association) house in Idaho Falls. Joyce and Tad were very involved in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Al-anon. As “old-timers” they loved the work and gave their hands in fellowship to the many who crossed their path. They always had an “open-door.” Joyce was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved camping and fishing. Mostly she loved people and always had a word of advice, whether you wanted it or not. Joyce is survived by her children: daughter, Kathleen Schofield; son, Michael (Rita) Schofield; son, Dan William Schofield; daughter, LaReen Schofield Pierce; daughter, Janet (Mills) Schofield; and son, John Tad (Betty) Schofield, all of Idaho Falls; 13 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; a brother, Grant (Barbara) Neibaur of American Falls, ID; brother-in-law, Robert (Cleola) Schofield of Lewisville, ID; sisters-in-law, Glenna Zick of Thousand Oaks, CA; Marva Neibaur and June Neibaur of Paul, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tad; brothers, Merritt, Bruce, Mack, Darwin, and Warren Neibaur; sisters, June West and Afton Wasden; a grandson, Nathan Schofield; and a great grandson, Tegan Rees. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road (corner of Ammon Road and John Adams Pkwy), with Bishop Jerry Tomlinson conducting. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. The family expresses thanks to Joyce’s many caregivers, particularly, Dan Schofield, who performed as a live-in caregiver for the past seven years, and to her hospice caregivers, Tina, Connie, and Donavon during the final few months. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the “Joyce N. Schofield Memorial Fund” at any Bank of Commerce. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
