Olsen on February 17, 1926 in Preston, ID, Joyce in her own words “danced her way through life”. She was raised in Franklin, Idaho on the family farm where at Franklin High School she ran track and field and was a drum majorette. She moved to Los Angeles, CA at the age of 21 where she met Robert Hendrick at a local fair where he won her attention by yelling “hey Blondie” as she walked by. She and Bob married and made their home in Los Angeles for seven years, welcoming their daughter Lore. Joyce attended Pasadena City College for business training, before moving to Salt Lake City, UT with her daughter. She worked for Phillips Petroleum Company as a secretary where she quickly earned a reputation as a hard worker in a time when few women worked, let alone single mothers. Later Joyce transferred to the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory in Idaho Falls, ID. While living in Idaho Falls, she married again and spent many enjoyable years in the singing group the Sweet Adelines. In the late 1980s, Joyce moved to Keizer, OR to be close to her daughter and grandchildren where she lived for 20 years. Joyce was an independent woman known for her fun loving sprit, the twinkle in her eye and devotion to her family. She loved to travel taking several international trips, cruises and annual visits with close friends. She was an excellent card player and loved spending Christmas holiday’s with family in Palm Springs, CA. An excellent dancer, Joyce could be found on the dance floor during every decade of her life. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Lore Christopher and her husband Ron, of Keizer, OR; brother, Darris Olsen and his wife Wilma, of Idaho Falls, ID; granddaughter, Alexis Tate and her husband Christopher of Los Angeles CA; grandsons, Charlie Christopher and Evan Christopher of Keizer, OR; and great-grandson, Eliot Tate of Los Angeles, CA. She is preceded in death by father, John W. Olsen; mother, Leone P. Olsen; brother, Nyile Olsen and sister-in-law: Colleen Olsen. All who knew Joyce loved her deeply; she will be missed and remembered forever. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) in Idaho Falls.
