Joyce Owen

Vera Joyce Morgan Owen passed away January 1, 2014, at Pine Brook Assisted Living Center of natural causes. Joyce was born on July 26, 1929, in American Falls, Idaho. Joyce lived with her parents, Alvin E Morgan and Sarah Anna Morgan (Barnhart) and elder siblings Elmo & Vada on a farm in Rockland, Idaho. The family moved to Osgood, Idaho, when Joyce was about four years old. Her younger brother Sherel was born shortly after the move. The family joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints while living in Osgood. Joyce married James Ivan Owen December 21, 1948. They lived in Idaho Falls where James was employed as a baker. Joyce worked at Roger Brothers Potato Products for 16 years, and later worked as a nurse's aide at River View and Sacred Heart Hospitals in Idaho Falls. Joyce had one son, Wesley Lynn Owen born in 1955. She also helped raise Steven James Owen, and was a loving soul to Steve's brother, Edward Eugene Owen. Joyce and her husband enjoyed the outdoors and spent much time together hunting, fishing, and boating, enjoying the many opportunities of Eastern Idaho. They also made numerous trips to California and Nevada. Joyce had a very helping spirit and was always interested in the welfare of others, especially her family. Joyce is survived by son, Wesley Owen of Idaho Falls; step-son, Steven Owen of Pflugerville TX; step-son, Edward Owen of Nashua, NH; sister, Vada Burden of Idaho Falls; brother, Sherel Morgan of Shelly. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, James, her parents, and her elder brother, Elmo. We (her family) remember her with loving memories and look forward to a future day when we can be united again through faith in Jesus Christ. A Gathering will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2014, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
