Joy Somers

Joy Margene Berntson Somers, 90, of Idaho Falls, passed away May 19, 2016, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Joy was born September 30, 1925, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Fredrick Noble Berntson and Ruth Seedall Berntson. She grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. She also attended Idaho State University.

On December 28, 1947, she married Stanton Langlois Somers in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They raised two daughters Karen and Susan. Joy and Stanton made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Joy worked as a school teacher for more than 40 years, teaching at Eastside and Longfellow schools. Stanton passed away August 25, 2001.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Joy is survived by her daughter, Karen Joy Somers of Idaho Falls, ID; sister-in-law, Florine Berntson of Idaho Falls, ID; nephew, Brent Berntson of Idaho Falls, ID; nephew, Craig Berntson of Provo, UT; niece, Jeanne Berntson of Idaho Falls, ID; 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanton Langlois Somers, a daughter Susan Kay Somers, a father, Fredrick Noble Berntson, mother, Ruth Seedall Berntson, and brother, Robert Noble Berntson.

The family will visit with friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Thursday, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue. Burial will follow in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
