JOSEPHINE GORDON
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Josephine “Jo” Shelton Gordon, 79, of Idaho Falls, died November 27, 2002 at her son’s home.
She was born on December 20, 1922, in Boise, Idaho, to Dr. Robert Shelton and Laurella Holmstrom Shelton. She attended school in Boise and graduated from high school in 1940. She then attended the University of Idaho, where she met her future husband, Goss E. Gordon. They were married February 14, 1942.
Following their marriage the couple moved to the Gordon family farm near Eden, Idaho. Shortly after moving to Eden, her husband joined the Army Air Corps. She moved with him to several air-training bases in the States before he was assigned to an air base in England. She moved home to Boise, where she was employed as a receptionist with her father's dental practice. When her husband returned from war they moved back to the family farm in Eden, Idaho, where they remained until retiring. At that time they moved to Twin Falls. She and her friend, Neta McClain, opened the Paperback Bookworm in Twin Falls in 1970. This store, a pet project of Jo and Nita's, is still in business on Addison Avenue East.
She had been a member of the bridge club in Eden since 1946. She was also a member of the Lady's Oriental Shrine and the American Legion Auxiliary. Jo enjoyed golfing, bowling, ceramics, and her time at the family cabin in Warm Lake, Idaho.
Surviving are:Son: Charles (Katharine) Gordon, Idaho Falls, IDSon: David E. Gordon, Eden, IDSister: Dorothy Leath, Boise, ID 8 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Robert; and an infant daughter.
Graveside services will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls, Idaho on Monday, December 2, 2002.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
