Dear Lisa and Mary Lou,
I want you both to know how much I loved and admired Joe. My thoughts immediately take me to him sitting in his spot on the couch, newspaper covering his face, as he read it from front to back. I remember fondly how quick he was to have a smile and his always pleasant demeanor. He was a man who had a great sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh. He was also a man of tremendous character, never having a bad word for any one. It is clear that is where Lisa draws her honesty and integrity from.
I always knew he would help out in any way he could. One of my greatest memories of Joe was when we were living in Las Vegas and when it was time to leave he made it a point to hug us both before we left each time. I will never forget his work as "Santa" on each Christmas Eve celebration and the delight he took in shaking those presents in an effort to guess what it was. Those times and traditions will carry on because of him.
I know the past little while has been a difficult stretch but I encourage you to reflect on all that he was and knowing that his life lives on through the examples he lived. It is through tears that I write this and that I send along my love. Make sure to smile as you think about all the great memories, make some room for tears of joy. He would want you to laugh a little!
Sincerely, Cody
