JOE WOOLF IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Joseph Hyrum Woolf, 88 years old, passed away at his home Friday, September 20, 2007, with loved ones present. Joseph was born October 21, 1918, to John Harvey Woolf and Docia Lott Woolf in Ucon, Idaho. When he was two days old his mother died from the flu in the epidemic of 1918. He lived with his Grandmother and Grandfather Lott, who raised him until his father married Henrietta Saunders one year later. The family grew from four boys to eleven boys and two girls. They all learned to work hard and enjoy life. Joe attended schools in Ucon and graduated from Ucon High School. He played basketball and was in musical plays in high school. Joe married Lola Kathleen Jardine November 7, 1940, in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. He managed the Idaho Falls Stake Welfare farm for 10 years. He then moved into Idaho Falls and worked for City Floral. He later worked for and retired from Ricks College, where he was the grounds supervisor. Joe loved his vegetable and flower gardens and always had a beautiful yard. He was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed taking all of his grandchildren with him. He made many friends through his work and church service. His greatest happiness in life was his family. He was devoted to his wife and six loving daughters. If you knew Joe, you knew he always wore a white shirt and tie even when fishing. He was a great dancer and loved to sing. He loved to give hugs and he always had a smile. He helped people trim their trees, he shingled the widow’s roof, and he planted thousands of flowers every spring. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in three bishoprics, Seventy’s Presidency, as High Priest group leader, stake facilities manager, and ward clerk. He is the father of six daughters, Joeleen (Gene) Hooper of Salt Lake City, Utah; Diane (Howard) Fergus of Beaverton, Oregon; Linda (Gerald, deceased) Williams of Idaho Falls; Dixie (Craig) Nordfelt of Rexburg; Sylvia (Bill) Hemming of Idaho Falls; and Valerie (Greg) Williams of Idaho Falls; 26 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Surviving him are his wife Kathleen and his six “girls;” his brothers, Vaughn (Marian) Woolf of Colorado; Mark (Kathy) Woolf of Sun City West, Arizona; Gordon (Karren) Woolf of Pomona, California; his sisters, Melba (Paul) Smith and Marie Tomecek, both of Mesa, Arizona; sisters-in-law, Eilene (Victor, deceased) Woolf of Las Vegas, Nevada; Nona (Wade, deceased) Woolf Tavares of Idaho Falls; Glenna (Preston, deceased) of Rexburg; Irene (Luke, deceased) Woolf of Provo, Utah; Gladys (Reid, deceased) Woolf of Provo, Utah; Lois (Virl, deceased) Jardine of Idaho Falls; and Earl and Marcene Jardine of Oxnard, California. Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, LaMar, Rex, Victor, Wade, Reid, Preston, Luke; brothers-in-law, Ray and Virl Jardine; granddaughter, Robynn Fergus; and grandson, Bryan Fergus. The family would like to thank Aspen Home Health & Hospice for making it possible to bring Dad home, especially Julie and Susan. Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, September 24, 2007, at the Idaho Falls LDS Mountain View Ward, 1450 Mountain View Lane, with Bishop Kerry Holmgren officiating.
