Joseph Melvin "Joe" Empey, 64, of Idaho Falls, passed away June 11, 2017, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Joe was born January 4, 1953, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Melvin Mitchell Empey and Joy Stoker Empey. He grew up and attended schools in Shelley and Idaho Falls, graduating from Shelley High School. On May 25, 1973, he married Lori A. Jensen in Idaho Falls, Idaho. To this union were born two children, Kristopher and Pamela. Joe started his construction career with Bonneville Paving Co. with his dad. Joe and Lori made their home in Idaho Falls where Joe continued his construction career as a heavy equipment operator for the INL for 25 years. He retired in 2013. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed hunting, fishing with his son, and camping with his family. He also enjoyed time he could spend with his grandsons just chilling and watching TV. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Lori Empey of Idaho Falls, son, Kristopher J. (Nicole) Empey of Idaho Falls, daughter, Pamela D. (Terry) Cook of Idaho Falls, two sisters, Sue Westergard and Shanon (Rod) Walker, both of Idaho Falls, grandchildren, Bryleigh, Addysen, Kane, Jaxton, Rayce, Payzlee, and Kyson, and great granddaughter, Presleigh. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Joy Empey, half-brother, Rulon Empey, and brother-in-law, Dee Westergard. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, with Brett Westergard officiating. The family will visit with friends from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Saturday prior to services. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
