Josef Borg

Josef Franz Borg passed peacefully on February 28, 2020, at EIRMC. During the last months of his life, he was cared for by the kind staff at Life Care of Idaho Falls for which his family was so grateful.

Joe was born on October 6, 1943, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Jonas and Virginia Borg. They took him home to their log house on K and Sage Streets that Jonas built for his family. Virginia called it the “Viking Palace on the Hill.” Joe was the third of six children: Jeaniene, Tom, Joe, Robert, David and Steven. Joe grew up in that home and made many friends in the neighborhood. He played football his freshman and sophomore years and graduated from Idaho Falls High School and Seminary in 1964. He served a church building mission in Montana and Canada for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During his mission, he lived with members who provided lodging to the building missionaries.

In his younger years, Joe was a big help to his dad when they built the family cabin at Palisades. He was a hard worker, learning the trade of carpet laying from his father and working at the U & I Sugar Factory. Joe was a custodian at the Country Club Mall, where he also enjoyed his role as Santa Claus during the Christmas season. In his later years, when he was not able to work anymore, Joe loved watching his western movie collection and listening to the classical music that his mother introduced him to as a young boy. Joe loved taking rides in the Ammon foothills, to the cabin at Swan Valley, and to West Yellowstone with friends. Trips to Glacier National Park were his favorite vacations. He was loved and will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jeaniene; and his brother, David. He is survived by his brothers: Tom, Robert, and Steven; and his daughter, Peggy Sue Hill.

A service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue. The family will visit with friends from 1-1:45 p.m. prior. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park.
