John Smith Remsburg

JOHN "JACK" REMSBURG IDAHO FALLS, ID -- John Smith "Jack" Remsburg, 78, died November 27, 2006, at his home in Idaho Falls. John was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, father-in-law and friend. Everyone who knew John loved him for his fun-loving sense of humor, quick wit and his wonderful presentation of life stories. He was born September 19, 1928, in Carthage, South Dakota, to Earl Edwin and Sarah Florence Smith Remsburg. He spent his early years in South Dakota and in 1934, the family moved to Shelley, Idaho, where his father engaged in farming. John attended schools in Shelley, St. Leon, York and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1946. On April 9, 1949, he married his true soul mate, Doris Irene Butler, whom he shared a wonderful, active and productive life with. After their marriage, he worked as a mechanic, truck driver, service station operator and operated his own excavating business. In 1959, he became employed by Argonne National Laboratory West until his retirement in January 1990. John's zest for life was apparent to all, and he lived his life to the fullest. He had many talents, interest and hobbies. In his earlier years he enjoyed camping, water skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, farming, square dancing, bowling and dancing. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family at his cabin at Palisades overlooking the reservoir. In his later years, he and his wife enjoyed winter months in Surprise, Arizona, and participated in their son, Rod's, Rodeo Announcing team during the summers. The last decade of his life was filled with physical ailments, doctor appointments and operations too numerous to count during his courageous battle with congestive heart failure. The aches and pains were constant but the complaints were few. He miraculously outlived everyone's expectations. We rejoice in the knowledge that his pain and sufferings are now silenced. Special thanks to Dr. Golden and Dr. Blank and their staffs for all their knowledge, time and care. As he was the center to all of our lives, John will be missed every day by his close family and many friends. Survivors include his wife, Doris; son, Rod Remsburg; daughter, Debra Combo (Jeff Winberg); brother, Bill (Hilde) Remsburg, Idaho Falls; three grandchildren, one great grandchild and two on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Joanne Strand and a brother, Bob Remsburg. Memorial Services will be held a 3:00 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2006, at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) with Chaplain John Piirto, officiating. Cremation will be performed with his ashes to be placed at his cabin. In addition to the memorial service Thursday, family and friends are invited to a Celebration of His Life held at the Idaho Falls Elk's Lodge from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association or to the Aspen Home Health and Hospice. Contribution envelopes will be available for each at the memorial and the Life Celebration. ------------------------------------------------ Condolences sent online: Barbara Rounds mamakehoe@hotmail.com Doris, Debbie, Rod and Rod’s Children, Tao, Cody, and Shayley: My deepest and most sincere sympathy goes out to you all. I understand what it is like to lose a husband, a father, a grandfather and a friend. Nothing I say can soothe your hurt at this time. No words could ever be said about “Jack” without a smile and a tear. He had a wit about him that even when he was not feeling well; he never let you feel bad for him. Jack was a truly special man. I can’t imagine Doris without Jack or Jack without Doris… they were always together, always inseparable. Doris, I am now living in Florida and will not be able to attend to give you a hug, but I am sure many of your family and friends will be there to console you. Rod, give “Mama” a hug for me please. Be strong; be proud to know that Jack will greatly be missed by everyone who knew him. Sincerely with Love, Barbara (Kehoe) Rounds 121 Santiago Drive, #103 Jupiter, Florida 33458 Edna Johnson [v-e-john@juno.com] Doris and Family: Sorry of learning of the passing of our dear friend Jack.
