John Spencer McCay, 79, of Rigby, passed away November 8, 2017, at his home. He was under the care of Alliance Hospice.
John was born October 7, 1938, in Newport News, Virginia, to Oliver Spencer McCay and Helen Hall McCay. He grew up and attended schools in Newport News, Virginia, and Los Angeles, California. He earned his high school diploma from EITC in 1996.
On July 8, 1961, he married Shirley Garner in Gardena, California. To this union were born four children, Ken, Sonny, Joyce and Christine. John and Shirley made their home in Rigby, Idaho, where John was owner of McCay’s Towing for 35 years. His family were his greatest asset.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed collecting knives and NASCAR. He was a great car enthusiast to the max.
John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley McCay of Rigby, ID; son, Kenneth Oliver (Suzette) McCay of Teton, ID; son, Winsor Marion "Sonny" (Tamara) McCay of Ammon, ID; daughter, Joyce Helen (Hal) Thueson of Menan, ID; daughter, Christine Ann (Paul) Williams of Rigby, ID; twin sister, Joanne Finch of Brookings, OR; sister, Toni Haworth of Sun City, CA; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Oliver Spencer McCay, mother, Helen Hall Fisher, stepfather, Joseph Fisher, son, John Spencer "Buddy" McCay, Jr., and brother-in-law, Allen Finch.
A gathering will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 12, 2017, at the Rigby Senior Citizen’s Center, 391 Community Lane in Rigby, Idaho.
