John Edwin McAffee passed away peacefully at his home on July 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born on April 2, 1940, to Albert and Phemia McAffee in Pocatello, Idaho. The sixth of seven children, he grew up on the family ranch in Darlington, Idaho. John's early education began in a one-room schoolhouse, and he went on to graduate from Mackay High School in 1958.
In 1963, John proudly joined the United States Army and was station in Germany for two years. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home to his roots in the Lost River Valley. John was a lifelong entrepreneur and rancher, dedicated to his work and his community.
In 1982, John welcomed his beloved daughter, Alysha. Twelve years later in 1994, John met the true love of his life, Virginia. It was love at first sight for both of them. After a thorough "getting to know you" period of 17 years, they were happily married on June 18, 2011. Both John and Virginia frequently shared that the 32 years they spent side-by-side were the very best years of their lives. With this marriage, John gained two daughters and a son whom he loved fiercely as his own.
John and Virginia shared a passion for adventure, creating beautiful memories on numerous road trips and cruises over the years. Deeply invested in giving back, John was an active member of the Arco Lions Club, the Idaho Falls Civitan Club and the Eagles Lodge #576. He was a remarkable, kind, passionate, caring and loving man-a true friend to everyone he met.
