John Larsen

John Bernard Larsen, 88, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away September 8, 2011, at Life Care Center of natural causes. John was born October 24, 1922, in Shelley, Idaho, to John E. Larsen and Annie Kearney Larsen. He grew up in Shelley and attended elementary through high school there. During World War II, John proudly served his country in the Army and Merchant Marines. On June 2, 1939, he married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Kelley, and they raised four children. The marriage was later dissolved. Wanda passed away March 20, 2004. On October 15, 1977, he married Jeanne Andersen Bradley and she brought with her five children. Jeanne passed away December 16, 2010. John was a long time member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #648 until he retired. John also farmed in Rigby, Idaho, for 50 years. Dad was with the American Legion for 68 years and was very proud of the fact that he was one of the longest surviving members. He was a past chairman from the early days of the War Bonnet Round-up. He was an active member of the Rigby and Idaho Falls Cutter Racing Association. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge. John is survived by his children, Ronald J. (Joyce) Larsen of Idaho Falls, Terry R. (Karen) Larsen of Idaho Falls, Sally Larsen Miles of Overton, Nevada; stepchildren, Marsha Fitch of Idaho Falls, Layne (Bill) Holden of Idaho Falls, Joe (Christy) Bradley of Boise, Idaho; 11 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; a brother, Carl (Ellen) Larsen and a sister, Buehlah B. Larsen, both of Seal Beach, California. John was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Louise, Maxlynn and Lenora; two brothers, Jesse and Wallace; his son, Robert L. Larsen; and two stepsons, Scott Bradley and Mike Bradley. Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Shelley-Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 10 to 10:40 a.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, prior to leaving for the cemetery.
