John Stewart Kulp Iii

John Stewart Kulp III, 82, of Idaho Falls, passed away August 8, 2024, at Idaho Falls Community Hospital, surrounded by family and friends.

John was born August 1, 1942, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to  Dr. John Stewart Kulp II and Rebecca Elizabeth May Kulp. He grew up and attended schools in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. As a young man, he enjoying horseback riding, swimming and water skiing in St. Simon's Island, Georgia.  He attended and graduated from Wyoming Seminary, college prep-school, in Pennsylvania. After one year at Penn State, he joined the US Marines where he served during the Vietnam War as a radio tech.

While in the Marines, his life became centered around a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and God's living Word. John's life Bible verse is: Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things."  (NKJ) There are so many other verses John treasured and used to make every decision in his life. God's Word was his guide.

On July 10, 1965, he married Joyce Claire Knight in Oceanside, California. They moved to San Jose, California, where they raised their children, Eric and Heather. John worked as a Computer Programmer and developer for IBM where he was known for a messy office, but with a keen mind for all sorts of programming issues. He served at Calvary Community Church in the audio/video ministry and in many Bible Studies, he became a scholar of the life-giving Word of God and was passionate about memorizing scripture.

Upon an early retirement from IBM John and Joyce traveled the western United States in their 5th wheel RV, finally settling in Idaho Falls. Here they served in A Refuge Ministries (ARM) and supported Joyce's parents. John continued to teach Bible Studies and mentor men and women to grow deeper in relationship with Jesus, through many outlets including prison ministry and study groups as well as becoming a father figure to many.  He was a member of Outwest Bible Church. He enjoyed studying God's word, a GOOD cup of coffee, helping others, math, and logic puzzles, and he would never pass up a cool pen, a nifty knife, or a bright flashlight.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Joyce Claire Kulp of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Eric B. Kulp; daughter, Heather Disbro; sister, Helen Elizabeth Kulp; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Stewart Kulp II, and Rebecca Elizabeth Kulp; and his brother, James William Kulp.

A Celebration of John's HOME-going will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Outwest Bible Church in Shiloh Inn, Idaho Falls.
