John Theurer Homer, 79, passed away Friday, November 26, 2010 at his home at Bonaventure Independent Living Center.
He was born January 2, 1931 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to John Mayhew Homer and Leone Theurer Homer.
He attended East Side Elementary, O.E. Bell Jr. High and graduated from Idaho Falls High School where is was active in many sports and school activities.
He continued his education at BYU in Provo, Utah and at Idaho State college where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Premed
He married Marjorie Louise Widerburg on August 19, 1954 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
They raised their family of 4 children in Idaho Falls where he worked in insurance, Real Estate, Real Estate appraising and land development.
He also did real estate appraisals for over 20 years in Mesa Arizona.
He was instrumental in obtaining the funds and starting the Eastern Idaho Technical college.
He was active in politics and was the Bonneville County Republican President and held several state Republican positions.
He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served a mission in Uruguay and Paraguay. He served as a Counselor in the 22nd Ward Bishopric and was a temple ordinance worker for 22 years in the Idaho Falls & Mesa temples and held many other church positions.
John coached Grid Kid Football for many years and greatly enjoyed watching his sons play football through the years. He also loved boating and waterskiing. Many young men and women learned how to water ski because of his patience. He enjoyed being with his family and spending time at their cabin at Big Springs in Island park.
John is survived by;

Son, Bradley John (Jill) Homer of Mesa, AZ;
Son, Dr. Scott W. (Angie)Homer of Idaho Falls, ID;
Son, Alan King (Judy ) Homer of Hillsboro, OR;
Brother, Dr. Quinten L. (Kathy) Homer of Boise, ID;
Brother, Gary B. (Maurine -deceased) Homer of Idaho Falls, ID;
17 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents John M & Leone Homer; brothers, Karl T. Homer and Dale M. Homer and a sister-in-law, JoNell Homer.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the Stonehaven Ward 1660 12th Street with Bishop David G. Standley officiating. A viewing will be held from 6:00pm-8:00 pm Friday, December 3, at Wood Funeral Home East Side Chapel (963 S. Ammon Rd.) and from 10-10:45 prior to the Saturday funeral service at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park.
