JOHN LAEL HARVEY IDAHO FALLS, ID -- John Lael Harvey, 79, formerly of Midvale, Utah, died December 9, 2006, at his home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, after a long, courageous battle with heart and hip disease. He was born March 14, 1927, in Heber City, Utah, the oldest of six children born to John Francis and Lucile Woodland Henderson Harvey. He was raised on a farm in Center Creek, Utah, herding sheep during the summers and attending schools in Heber City, where he graduated from Wasatch High School before enlisting in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He served in the Army during the Korean War. After the wars he attended Utah State University and Brigham Young University, graduating with a B.S. in Agronomy. He married Kathleen Rae Adamson on August 31, 1953, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple, and they were blessed with two children, Susan and Mark. He spent his career as a Soil Scientist working 30 years for the Soil Conservation Service in Chinook, Montana, Pinedale, Wyoming, and many locations in Utah. He faithfully served his Heavenly Father in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and had a strong testimony of his Savior. He served as a high councilman, district clerk, the first Bishop in Pinedale, Wyoming, high priest group leader, Sunday School president, gospel doctrine teacher, scout master, life-long home teacher, and with his wife as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple. He served two part-time missions. His life was devoted to his family and to the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was a humble, quiet man who loved spending time with his wife, son, daughter, and granddaughters, He loved the outdoors, especially the mountains, where he enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating with his family. He enjoyed traveling and seeing new places, and spent 17 winters in Yuma, Arizona. Survivors include his wife: Kathleen Harvey of Idaho Falls, daughter: Susan (Doug) Nelson, and granddaughters, Kelli and Brooke, all of Idaho Falls, siblings, Evah (Derlin) Horne, Richland, WA, William (Shirley) Harvey, Albuquerque, NM, Velda (Roger) Gines, Bountiful, UT, Lucille (Garth) Torgersen, Provo, UT, Brother-In-Law: David (Mary Jo) Adamson, Roosevelt, UT, Sister-In-Law: Bernadine Harvey, Draper, UT. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Allen Harvey, his parents, and brother, Richard D. Harvey, and sister-in-law, Dawnette K. Adamson. The family will visit with friends Tuesday, December 12, 2006, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, Idaho Falls. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 14, 2006, at the Midvale LDS East 4th Ward, 87 East 7100 South, Midvale, Utah, with Bishop Joseph Olschewski officiating. Viewings will be at the church Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., prior to the services. Burial will be in the Heber City, Utah, cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. Military Rites will be performed by the American Legion Lockhart Post 23.
