JACK GAMBLE IDAHO FALLS, ID - John Seward “Jack” Gamble, 94, of Idaho Falls, died August 26, 2003, at Good Samaritan Nursing Center. He was born August 14, 1909, in Idaho Falls, to Alexander C. Gamble and Martha Louisa Seward Gamble. He grew up in the area and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He attended the University of Idaho Southern Branch in Pocatello for two years. He served as a Captain in the Idaho State Guard during World War II. On October 6, 1940, he married Cecil Irene Cook in Idaho Falls. He worked in the wholesale grocery business until 1946, when they moved to West Yellowstone, Montana, and he managed the O. P. Skaggs Grocery Store. Next he managed the Ashton store while living in St. Anthony, and finally the Idaho Falls O. P. Skaggs Store in 1948. He opened his own retail grocery store “Gambles Fine Foods” in 1953. After the sale of his business in 1971, he worked as a realtor with L. A. Hartert & Co. He was a longtime member of the Elks, a member and Past President of the Idaho Falls Rotary Club, and was a member and Past President of the Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Bonneville County Historical Society and volunteered at the Museum. In 1995 he was honored by that group as a Bonneville Pioneer. Jack enjoyed civic activities, skiing, traveling, golf, his friends and his family. Surviving are: Son: John [Dorothy] Gamble, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Margaret [Michael] Nelson, Danville, CA Daughter: Nancy [Harold] Hansen, Riverton, UT Daughter: Janet [Jeff] Lang, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Barbara Bauer, Ogden, UT 10 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandchild He was preceded in death by his wife, four brothers, and two sisters. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2003, at the First Presbyterian Church, 325 Elm Street, with Reverend Dr. Dennis Falasco officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) and for one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to the Good Samaritan Center, 840 East Elva, Idaho Falls, ID 83401, in lieu of flowers.
