John Dixon

John Thomas Dixon, 93, of Idaho Falls, passed away June 19, 2018, at Turtle & Crane Assisted Living.

John was born October 17, 1924, in Blackfoot, Idaho, to John Singleton Dixon and Ruth Van Blaricom Dixon. He grew up and attended schools in the area and graduated from Blackfoot High School. He served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943-1945. John was in the Battle of the Bulge and also ran a 57mm anti-tank gun.

After the war, his first jobs were at three different theaters in Blackfoot. It was at the movie theater he met Joanne Kay Martin who worked as a cashier. On June 26, 1950, they were married in Blackfoot. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on November 9, 1951. To this union were born seven children: Michael, Larry, Randy, Steve, Chris, Vickie and Joan. John and Joanne made their home in Idaho Falls, where John worked as a Maintenance Engineer for the LDS Hospital. He transferred to Eastern Idaho Medical Center when the hospital closed.

John was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a ward clerk and home teacher. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and loved to fix things. His favorite foods included anything with peanuts, especially a Snickers bar with a Pepsi, and good fried chicken. He especially loved spending time with his family and enjoyed playing family games like Monopoly, Yahtzee, and Pinochle.

John is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Joanne Kay Dixon of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Michael Thomas (Carolyn) Dixon of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Larry Brian (LuAnn) Dixon of Lewisville, ID; son, Randy Lynn (Nancy) Dixon of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Steven Floyd Dixon of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Chris Gary Dixon of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Vickie Ann Dixon of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Joan Marie (Scott Griffin) of Idaho Falls, ID; 23 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; and 9 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jean Ruth Mickelsen.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at Grove City Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Blackfoot American Legion Post 93.
