John Earl Cowden

John Earl Cowden, 78, of Ammon, passed away July 15, 2019, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

John was born May 6, 1941, in Gilman, Colorado, to John Henry Cowden and Nina Mae Exler Cowden. He grew up and attended schools in Gilman and graduated from Gilman High School. He also attended New Mexico School of Mines where is earned his Bachelors’s Degree.

John was in law enforcement in Arizona before moving to Idaho Falls, Idaho.

He married Carol Cowden and helped raise three step-children, Tom, Steven and Katherine. Carol passed away in 2006. John retired from law enforcement prior to meeting his second wife. In 2007, he married Lois Rae Cowden in Iona, Idaho. Following his retirement he worked at Valley Medical Supply, Sportman’s Warehouse and Cabela’s.

He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Masonic. John enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting.

John is survived by his loving wife, Lois Rae Cowden of Ammon, ID; sister, Becky (Doug) Page of Idaho Falls, ID, sister, Priscilla Weber Hall of New Mexico; step-daughter, Hidy Rockwood (Tony) Graham of Rigby, ID, step-daughter, Joy Rockwood (Spencer)Cowley of Shelley, ID, niece, Airica Mae Staley; 5 step-grandchildren, Skyler Rockwood, Teagun Rockwood, Taylor Rockwood, Chance Graham and Dalton Cowley.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be held at 12:00 pm Monday, July 22, 2019, at Ammon Cemetery, 5226 East Sunnyside Road.
