John Butikofer

John Richard Butikofer, 76, of Idaho Falls, passed away January 27, 2013, at his home, after a valiant battle with ALS. He was under the care of his devoted wife and loving family. John was born September 22, 1936, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Rudolph Arnold Butikofer and Bertha Lucille Link Butikofer. He attended school in Coltman and High School at Bonneville and attended Ricks College. He served with the Idaho National Guard. On November 9, 1962, he married his eternal companion, Phyllis Kay Clark, at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. John and Phyllis had two daughters and a son. John worked as a farmer and truck driver. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in Denmark. John was a devoted family man, a loving father and grandfather. He left a legacy of love, service and total devotion to his family. He enjoyed camping, horses, and snowmobiling. John is survived by his wife, Phyllis Butikofer of Idaho Falls; Daughter, Chellae (Peled) Barlev of Eugene, OR Daughter, Michelle (Ben) Meyer of Idaho Falls, ID; Son, Thayne Clark Butikofer of Idaho Falls, ID; 6 brothers: Merrill, Preston, Eldred, Howard, Allen, and Reed Butikofer; Sister: Maurine May; and eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Gladys Treffrey, and brother, Maurice Butikofer. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013, at the Idaho Falls LDS St. Leon Ward, 6925 North 15th East, with Bishop Blair Sautter of the Coltman 1st Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Grant-Central Cemetery.
