John Battin

John Benjamin Battin, 84, of Idaho Falls, passed away August 9, 2018, in Iona, Idaho, at the home of his daughter. John was born June 20, 1934, in Manhattan, New York, to Howard Herold Battin and Pauline Neiman Battin. He grew up in White Plains, New York, where he attended White Plains High School. He joined the National Guard and served during the Korean War. On February 13, 1954, he married Emily Jane Palmer in New York. To this union were born three children: John Benjamin, Virginia Anne, and Marjorie Jane. John worked as a plumber. John and Emily were later divorced. On April 23, 1977, he married Marcia King in Casanovia, New York. They later moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho. John was a Mason and attended New Life Church. As a young man, he enjoyed playing football and helping with the Boy Scouts. He also enjoyed reading, buying real estate, visiting family and volunteering as a firefighter. He is survived by his wife, Marcia Battin of Idaho Falls, ID; son, John (Almyra) Battin of Port Orchard, WA; two daughters, Virginia (Steve) Russell of Iona, ID and Marjorie Grier of Port Orchard, WA; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Georgia Elizabeth Roberts. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at the Iona Cemetery (4962 East First Street).
