Joel Dee Sedgwick, 74, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on March 6, 2018, at the Silverado Memory Care Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was under the care of Silverado Hospice. He was born on February 11, 1944, to Daniel Baker Sedgwick and Jennie Elfreda Braithwaite Sedgwick at the family home in Arco, Idaho, where he was raised. He was the last of eight children. Joel graduated from Butte High School in 1962. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was trained as a mechanic. When he finished his service, Joel attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He spent his career working throughout the Western States in Washington, Oregon, Montana, Nevada, and many parts of Idaho. He worked as an airplane mechanic, a certified electrician, a lineman and a heavy equipment mechanic. He worked for Boeing, Arnold Machinery, Case, Becco, HK Contractors, TMC, and retired from Phenix Construction. Joel was a wonderful brother, uncle and friend. He could often be found at his second home, Mitchell's Truck Stop, enjoying a cup of coffee or a meal with his family of friends. Joel was deeply loved by his family and could always be counted on to fix our problems, figuratively and literally. Whether playing cards with his family, pool or darts, bailing his nieces out of trouble, or teasing his nephews on the golf course, his sense of humor was always appreciated. Joel is survived by his brother, Carl (Lorraine) Sedgwick of Missoula, MT; sister, Vonda Kalama of Honolulu, HI; sister, Rhea Radford of Ucon, ID; sister-in-law, Sharon Sedgwick of Tieton, WA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Jennie Sedgwick; sister, Pearl Palmer; brothers, Donald, Robert (Sedge), and Leon Sedgwick; brothers-in-law, George Palmer, Donald Kalama, and Jay Radford; sisters-in-law, Normy Sedgwick and Gudrun Sedgwick. The family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to the loving staff at Silverado Memory Care. Your loving care of Joel during his long, hard-fought battle with Alzheimers is deeply appreciated. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., both times at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Arco.
