JOEL MARTINEAU
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Joel Scott Martineau, 53, of Idaho Falls, passed away September 18, 2005, of complications from cancer.
Joel was born November 5, 1951, in Pocatello, Idaho, to James Gaston Martineau and Rebecca June Parker Martineau. As a youth, he found joy in climbing mountains, being a Boy Scout and playing his viola in orchestras. He reached the rank of Eagle Scout.
Joel graduated from Pocatello’s Highland High School in 1970. He served an LDS mission to Pennsylvania. He married Carolyn Sue Downey September 14, 1973, in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. He graduated from Idaho State University with a degree in geology in 1977. He worked in the uranium mining industry, in the environmental field, and most recently in the geo-technical field.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. He loved God's creations in the heavens – the stars, planets, and meteors. He loved God's creations on earth – the rocks, the mountains, the birds and the animals. He loved music – listening to, singing and playing string instruments. He loved different cultures and was so pleased with his new Bolivian relatives.
He leaves a legacy to his posterity of a love of his Heavenly Father and the Savior Jesus Christ, an appreciation for music, nature and all things scientific.
He survived by his wife, Carolyn of Idaho Falls; a son, John (Melissa) Martineau of Provo, Utah; daughters, Bethany (Scott) Crenshaw of Idaho Falls, Amy Martineau of Logan, Utah, Mandy Martineau of Sun Valley, Idaho, and Katrina Martineau of Provo, Utah; brothers, James (Kay) of Huber Heights, Ohio, and Jerrold (Wanda) of Pocatello; his mother-in-law, Ramona Downey of Eagle, Idaho; a sister-in-law, Diane (David) Nimtz of Eagle, ID; six nephews and seven nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, James & June, a brother, John Reed Martineau, and a sister, Jane Puckett.
The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at EIRMC for their care during the last year and especially Dr. Michael Denyer, Dr. Daniel Hinckley, Dr. Shawn Speirs, and Dr. William Wilson.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2005, at the Idaho Falls LDS 16th Ward, 885 South Boulevard, with Bishop Mark Richardson officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, and Wednesday for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Bennington Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Perpetual Education Fund, which benefits young men and women in underprivileged countries. Donations can be made through local wards or LDS Philanthropies, 15 East South Temple, 2nd Floor, Salt Lake City, UT 84150.

Carolyn, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you remember your big sister from Lamba Delta Sigma Phi Chapter. It is really hard to loose a spouce. I have lost my mother, a little girl, and my grandparents that I lived with when we were both single. I feel so bad that we have lost track of each other. I haven't left the Pocatello area. After I divorced Andy Dredge, I married Wesley (Wes) Stone from Blackfoot. He had two daughters from his first marrige. We then had 2 of our own. I am now the grandmother of 12 1/4 grandchildren. I do want you know that I really want to send my condolences and love to your family. If you have time give me a call on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. I hope to hear from you soon. I really missed the times we have shared. Love, Sheila Parks Stone
