Click Here To View Memorial Video Joel Marcos Herrera, 50, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 21, 2014, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center due to natural causes. Marcos had chosen cremation prior to his death. Marcos was born September 21, 1963 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Jose M. “Joe” Herrera and Audrey Lou Sathoff Herrera. He grew up, attended several schools in Jerome Idaho and furthered his education and graduated in Idaho Falls at Emerson Elementary, Bonneville Jr. High, and Bonneville High School. He also attended Idaho State University. Marcos was the business owner and operator of the Karaoke Konnection 18 years of his life. Previously he was employed as a Security Guard at the INEL for 8 years where he was noted as top marksman and an inspiration for strength training. During this time span his back was broken in an accident that took place outside of work leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. In addition, he was employed as a disc jockey for KUPI radio station hosting a late night talk music show for 8 months. As a child and teenager Marcos lived and breathed sports intensely focusing his total determination and energy in immersing himself into the heart of the high school football and basketball teams. Golf was his passion, and he emphatically enjoyed singing, bodybuilding challenges at darts, and winning most poker games. Marcos loved people. Other people’s lives’ was his priority sharing and genuinely embracing their circumstances. He wore his heart on his sleeve, continually manifesting deep regard for others, joyfully volunteering, dedicating his time freely refusing payment for orchestrating and performing in countless charity fundraisers and benefits for those less fortunate. His door was always opened and welcomed anybody and everybody. He was an idol to many, giving encouragement and praise to his friends and family and, being a protective brother, uncle, and friend. Also, his generosity was felt and well known amongst his numerous nieces and nephews ensuring that each of them received a Christmas gift from him each year. He was a past member of the Eagles Lodge. In addition, for 15 years consecutively he placed in the top ten Idaho Falls Country Showdown singing contest held at the Shilo Inn. He also won the Congeniality Award for entering his Karaoke Konnection Float in the 4th of July Parade entertaining throughout the entire route. His determination, love, generosity, and contributions to society will be missed and always remembered. Marcos is survived by three sisters, Michelle Herrera (Butch) Johnson of Idaho Falls, ID; Denise (Dell) Taylor of West Jordan, UT; and JoDee (Mike) DeWitt of Wendell, ID; two brothers, Jose’ M. (Linda) Herrera of Tetonia, ID; and Andre’ R. (April) Herrera of Idaho Falls, ID; step-mother, Joanne Bloom Hill Herrera of Idaho Falls, ID; two step-sisters, Kathy Hill of Idaho Falls, ID; and Debbie Hill (Steve Winston) Utterbeck of Idaho Falls, ID; and step-brother, Duane Jack (Terri) Hill of Idaho Falls, ID. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge). The family will visit with friends an hour prior to services. Shortly following the services, a “Celebration of Life” will be held at the Eagles Lodge, 635 Hemmert Drive Idaho Falls, ID.
