Joe Keen - 03/21/2002 Joe Keen - 03/21/2002 JOE J. KEEN IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Joe J. Keen, 74, of Idaho Falls, formerly of Rogers, Arkansas, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was born October 2, 1927 in Tonkawa, Oklahoma to Joseph Isaac Keen and Gladys Emily Cone Keen. During the Depression the family moved from Oklahoma to the West Coast where he graduated from high school in Port Angeles, Washington. He served his country in the Army Air Corps at the end of World War II and then went to college at Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho, where he met Dera Lee Mitchell. They were married on June 1, 1954. He finished his Masters Degree and Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Colorado where he served on the faculty for 20 years and as vice president in charge of the Denver campus, which, under his leadership became an independent campus of the university system. In 1974 he moved with his wife and daughter to Northwest Arkansas where they began a successful real estate business and later purchased and operated the Rogers Townhouse, an assisted living facility. Joe was an exemplary husband, father, brother, son, uncle, and grandfather. His vast knowledge of literature and his ability to recall all the verses to every hymn he ever heard astounded all. He was a scholar of the Bible and a dedicated Christian. Earth has lost an amazing man but heaven is all the better. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dera, his parents, Joe & Gladys, and two sisters, Martha and Veda. His is survived by his daughter, Molly, his son-in-law, Bob, four grandchildren, Sydney, Janna, Sam & Roxanne, his sister, Vera, brothers-in-law, Dalton & Doyle and many nieces & nephews Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2002, at First Church of the Nazarene (1900 Grandview Dr.) in Idaho Falls, with Pastor Les Moore officiating. The family will meet with friends on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home.
