JOANNE REED
IDAHO FALLS, ID --
Surrounded by her family and in the comfort of her home, JoAnne Wood Reed passed from her earthly life to continue her eternal progression. She had courageously fought a five year battle with breast cancer which ended June 15, 2007. Her 48 years had been filled with abundant love from her family and wonderful adventures.
JoAnne was the fifth child of Richard and Afton Wood. She was born February 12, 1959, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She greatly enjoyed living in Idaho. She attended O.E. Bell Junior High School and Skyline High School, graduating with honors in 1977. JoAnne attended one year at Ricks College in Rexburg and then married Bryon L. Reed, her high school sweetheart, on July 8, 1978, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. JoAnne then worked for a short time before beginning her family of four children. JoAnne’s greatest joy in life was raising her children. She was always involved in their lives and attended every event they participated in. She also loved her three grandchildren and was excited for another granddaughter coming in September. She leaves them a wonderful legacy of faith and courage.
JoAnne once told her parents that she would never marry a farmer but that is just what she did. She then loved living on the farm. She went on endless trips with Bryon in the pickup to check crops, pumps, cellars or to just get away.
JoAnne enjoyed the outdoors her entire life. As a child she went on many backpacking trips with her parents. Two of her favorite activities as an adult had been boating and snowmobiling with her family. She also loved spending time at their cabin in Island Park.
JoAnne was an accomplished piano player who taught piano lessons from her home for several years and had many students, including her own children, who all learned to play the piano from her.
JoAnne was a talented seamstress and sewed countless blankets and heirlooms for her family. She has drawn hundreds of house plans, a hobby she began as a young girl. After taking a drafting class from BYU, she designed and drew the plans for her own home and has drafted plans for many other homes and cabins.
JoAnne always cherished her membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and lived very close to her Savior, Jesus Christ. JoAnne was always giving service as a visiting teacher and served in numerous church callings.
JoAnne is survived by her husband, Bryon L. Reed; her parents, Richard and Afton Wood; her children, Kurtis (Jolene) Reed of Rochester, Minnesota, Derek (Christi) Reed of Idaho Falls, Melanie (Kenneth) Nielson of Nampa, Idaho, and Janae (Brad) Jackman of Salt Lake City, Utah; and her siblings Dale Wood, Stan Wood, Michael Wood and Barbara Owen. JoAnne was preceded in death by her grandparents and a nephew.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at the Idaho Falls LDs Osgood Ward, 7940 North 35th West, with Bishop Gregg Landon officiating.
The family will visit with friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.

Dear Bryon,
I was so sorry to hear about your wife.
We read the obituary today. Your wife was definitely a remarkable woman.
JoAnne accomplished more in her 48 years than most of us achieve in full lives. You can be proud of the legacy she leaves.
Hopefully that legacy will sustain you and yours in the next few days, months, and years.
Thoughts and prayers with you and yours,
Colleen Mann

My deepest condolences to Joanne's family. My best and only memories of grade school include JoAnne and the crazy things we would dream up. She tried to teach me to ski and helped me get over my fear of dogs. I will always remember Peanut and his "friendly bark" she would tell me. She was truly an example of good for everyone who knew her.
Our prayers go out to the family.
