JoAnn Edith Lance, 75, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 4, 2014, surrounded by her family at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
JoAnn was born on May 27, 1939 in Central, Idaho to Leon Frederick Qualman and Alta Zina Rosdahl Qualman. She had two brothers that passed away at early ages. JoAnn was the sparkle in her parent’s eyes, being the only daughter. In 1945, they moved to Nampa, Idaho and in 1950 her parents purchased a farm in Roberts, Idaho. She lived in Roberts until she was married. JoAnn had a love for horses and had several horses as a child. She attended schools in Roberts and Rigby graduated from Rigby High School. JoAnn attended the LDS Business College where she became a professional secretary. When she was 21, JoAnn served a mission in Denver, Colorado for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She worked in the mission home as a secretary and loved it. After her mission, she worked at the site for GE where she met her husband, Jack Anthony Lance.
On April 18, 1964, she married Jack and they made their home in Idaho Falls. JoAnn had the pleasure of being a mother to five children; Brett, Trevor, Candace, Kimberly, and Brandon. She was very involved in her children's lives. JoAnn had the privilege of being able to stay home and be a homemaker. She worked for the Martin Farm during potato harvest for years and really enjoyed it.
Then came grandkids. She loved being a grandmother. Grandkids loved to stay at Grandma Lance's and have her mush for breakfast. (Just because it was a bowl full of sugar). JoAnn loved to have get-togethers with her family. She started so many traditions with the grandkids such as carving pumpkins, Christmas pj's, decorating Valentines cookies, Easter egg hunts, birthday shopping dates and sleepovers.
JoAnn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in the Young Women's Presidency, a Cub Scout leader, Secretary in the Primary, and Relief Society Presidency. Her favorite calling was serving as a visiting teacher and was very faithful in this calling. JoAnn loved to crochet afghans, read books and go shopping. She loved to travel and was able to take many vacations with her family and friends. She was very active and enjoyed walking three times a week with her dear friend, Barbara Harper.
JoAnn is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Jack Lance of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Brett (Kristy) Lance of Rigby, ID; son, Trevor Lance of Menan, ID; daughter, Candace Sheppard (Lynn) of Rigby, ID; daughter, Kimberly Hansen (Jason) of Valdez, AK; son, Brandon Lance (Valerie) of Blackfoot, ID, 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and 1 on the way.
