Joan Thiel

Joan Lois Esser Thiel, 84, of Idaho Falls, passed away November 24, 2018, at MorningStar Senior Living Center. Joan was born July 1, 1934, in Madison, Wisconsin, to Jacob Esser and Emily Henschew Esser. She grew up and attended schools in Madison and graduated from high school there. On July 16, 1954, she married Denis William Thiel Sr. in Madison, Wisconsin. To this union were born five children, Denis Jr., James, Catherine, Jerome and Tanya. Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was a member of the Ammon Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses. Joan enjoyed gardening, flowers, and knitting. Joan is survived by her husband, Denis Thiel Sr. of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Denis (Nona) Thiel Jr. of Fruitland, ID; son, James (Celeste) Thiel of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Catherine (Dennis) Gertken of Woodruff, WI; son, Jerome Thiel of Monks Corner, SC; daughter, Tanya Thiel of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Frank Esser of Wisconsin; 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at the Ammon Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses (4805 Sweetwater Way).
