Joan was born October 13, 1920, at Mink Creek, Idaho, to Daniel Jensen and Anita Mahalia Petersen Jensen. She grew up and attended schools in the area, graduating from Preston High School. She attended the University of Idaho Southern Branch in Pocatello, Idaho. She volunteered for, and served in, the U. S. Navy during World War II and received the rank of Yeoman 1st Class. On February 25, 1944, she married John Adams Soelberg in Salt Lake City, Utah. They lived in San Francisco, California, during the remainder of World War II; Mount Pleasant, Utah; Colorado Springs, Colorado, during the Korean Conflict; Grand Junction, Colorado, and Fruita, Colorado. After her husband passed away in 2001, Joan moved to Richmond, Utah; and then in 2009 to Idaho Falls, Idaho, to be closer to more of her family. Joan raised ten children on a limited budget. She broke up fights and often said "If you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all." She gave her children everything they needed, but few luxuries. She was devoted to her family and to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She magnified every calling. She was also involved in the Right to Life program. She was always kind; always ready to serve, teach, or lead others; always ready to sternly correct, and always a good example and inspiration to all who knew her. Survivors are: Son: Daniel John Soelberg of Salt Lake City, UT Daughter: Linda Jo Idell of Clifton, CO Son: Kerry Valdean Soelberg of West Jordan, UT Daughter: Merrilee Ann Caldwell of Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Holly Gay Rasband of Syracuse, UT Daughter: Paula Kay Pence of Idaho Falls, ID Son: Nicholas Ray Soelberg of Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Lani Dee Hardy of Kimberly, ID Son: Zachary Darren Soelberg of Berthoud, CO Son: Andrew Karl Soelberg of Hillsboro, OR She has 54 grandchildren and 94 great grandchildren. She knew all of their names, followed the progress in their lives, and always wanted to know how they were doing. She unconditionally loved every one of them, enjoying their visits and hugs. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dr. John A. Soelberg, DDS, her brothers, Tony and Wayne, her sisters, Anna Beth and Marie, and many friends and loved ones. She knew life is eternal and desired to be with them again.
