Jewel Birch Larsen, 87, of Idaho Falls, passed away on May 14, 2013, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 16, 1925, in Mink Creek, ID to Mads Martinus Larsen and Anna Mathilde Birch Larsen. He grew up and attended schools in the area, graduating from Preston High School in 1943. He joined the U.S. Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
On November 11, 1948, he married Arlene Bright in Winder, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized on May 22, 1965, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They made their home in Preston and in 1951, moved to Idaho Falls. He worked as a Shift Supervisor at INEL starting at Phillips Petroleum.
Jewel was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings including Ward Executive Secretary and Ward Mission Leader. He was a hard worker and enjoyed serving others.

6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, LaMont Birch Larsen, Wayne Birch Larsen, and Gaylen Birch Larsen; sisters, Maurine Birch Klippert and Bonnie Birch Zimmerman; and 1 grandson, Adam Casey Larsen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the Idaho Falls LDS Mountain View Ward (1450 Mountain View Lane) with Bishop Randall Wheeler officiating. The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park with military rites by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
