Jessica Ann (Fossum) Smith

Jessica Ann “Jessie” Smith, 54, of Rexburg, Idaho, formerly of Idaho Falls, passed away September 18, 2021, at her home following a short illness. She was under the care of her loving family and Hands of Hope Hospice.

Jessie was born December 12, 1966, in Arcadia, California, to Phillip Jones and Judith Corina Staghan Fossum; she was adopted by John Fossum. She grew up and attended schools in Ammon, Idaho, and graduated from Bonneville High School.  She also attended Idaho State University.

On December 7, 1984, she married Ronald K. Smith. They were blessed with four children, Amber Christine (Marcus) Winn, Kevin Ron (Makyla), Travis Ryan (Jaymee), and Matthew Cory (Courtney) Dean. Jessie and Ronald were later divorced. On July 27, 1995, she married Joseph R. Derricott, and together, they raised her four children and his three children. She loved her stepchildren dearly, Christopher F. Derricott, Joseph “Joey” F. Derricott, and Kelsey Vitacolonna. Jessica and Joseph were later divorced.

Growing up, Jessie loved riding horses, camping, swimming, and roller skating. As an adult, she loved playing pool and darts at a little bar that was then called “The First Street Saloon.” She loved her friends as though they were family.

Jessie is survived by her dads, Allan J. Fossum and Phillip L. Jones; stepmothers, Nancy L. Jones and Gaila Fossum; her children; grandchildren, Ava, Kory, Kian, Ellie, Easton, Quincy, and Maddox; her girlfriend of one year, Laura, who she loved dearly; her brothers and sisters, Mark Jones, Brandi Zanoni, Terrie Stonebarger, Ann Murry, Mark Fossum, and Elise Fossum.

A gathering for friends and family will be held from 12-2 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road.
